You can say the heavy, complicated, or painful truths about your grieving relationships, and your experiences will be held with reverence and non-judgment.
You and your loved one's shared histories, no matter how complicated, deserve space to be tended to, on your terms.

I’m Krystle May Statler, a certified grief coach and trauma-informed storyteller living in Portland, OR, specializing in sibling loss — whether through estrangement, disconnection, distance, or death. While my specialty is sibling loss, Story Safe Grief Coaching is for anyone living through ambiguous, complex, or disenfranchised loss.
In 2019, my older biological brother, Brian Leslie Statler Jr. (BJ), was taken by police violence. Through this nonsensical and unimaginable loss, I’ve sought ways to honor his life and my love for our past and the stolen future we could’ve had. Living in a dominant culture that often overlooks the emotional landscape of siblings, I believe we deserve more than the label of forgotten mourners. We are still here, carrying the stories, memories, hopes, and dreams of siblingship, no matter how far away our siblings are.
Through storytelling tools and the B.R.E.A.T.H.E. framework, I offer a compassionate, safe, trauma-informed space where your stories, memories, and truths are honored on your terms. Your lived experience, memory, and imagination are a sacred triad for healing as you move alongside your loss in this life-after.

Grief coaching is a collaborative, forward-moving practice focused on narrative reflection, story-sharing, and finding ways to move alongside your loss.
It is non-clinical and non-diagnostic, making it a supportive companion to therapy rather than a substitute for clinical mental health care.
No, while sibling loss is my specialty, Story Safe is intentionally designed for anyone navigating ambiguous, complex, or disenfranchised loss.
Ambiguous loss involves grief without clear closure or resolution.
Complex loss carries layered emotions, conflicting feelings, or non-linear dynamics surrounding a relationship. If your loss feels hard to name, messy, or unacknowledged by others, you belong here.
Disenfranchised loss refers to grief that isn't fully recognized, validated, or supported by broader society—such as family or friendship estrangement, loss to incarceration or police violence, death by suicide or overdose, reproductive and perinatal loss, adoption or foster care separation, chronic illness or disability, or the loss of a non-death relationship.
The Connection Call is a no-pressure conversation for us to meet, discuss what brings you to grief coaching, and explore which offering feels most supportive. There’s nothing to prepare and no obligation to become a client, just a space to share your story and experience our alignment.
Individual coaching and group workshops are primarily held virtually via secure video or phone links, making them accessible wherever you are.
Local in-person gatherings and organizational workshops are also available in the Portland, OR, and Vancouver, WA areas.
Story Safe Grief Coaching is a non-clinical coaching service and is not a substitute for professional therapy, counseling, or emergency crisis care.
